Mayor of South Carolina’s Largest City Signs Paris Declaration on National HIV Testing Day
June 27, 2019 — Charleston, SC, Mayor John Tecklenburg signed the Paris Declaration on Fast-Track Cities today, adding South Carolina’s largest city to a growing network of more than 300 municipalities worldwide that are committed to ending their local HIV epidemics, including the City of Columbia, SC, which signed on earlier this year. The Office of Community Oriented Policing (COP) within the Charleston Police Department ensures that our officers, from the Chief down to a new officer, understand that building positive community partnerships is just as important as reducing crime and the fear of crime in the community. One way we build community partnerships is by participating in non-law enforcement initiatives like Farmacy. Farmacy’s primary mission is to assist those citizens who are in need by providing them with fresh produce. The City of Charleston partnered with I Will Reflect and IMPACT Melanoma to install sunscreen dispensers in various parks and public spaces throughout the city, including Brittlebank and Hampton Parks, White Point Gardens, and the Ravenel Bridge pedestrian walkway, and many more.
